Sharing with your brother is just a part of life whether you like it or not and this time it’s no different. The QB/WR sophomore duo had a night to remember in their 54-12 win over Horizon earning them co-player of the week honors. Jeffrey had only 13 completions, but 4 of those went for touchdowns and he had 240 total yards (212 pass, 28 rush). One of those scoring strikes went to Jacob who finished with 8 receptions for 105 yards and also had a interception, with a 42-yards return on top that.

The senior captain of the Torreys’ defense led them to their second straight shutout victory with a 49-0 win over San Ysidro one week after a 50-0 beat down of Montgomery. In that span, the linebacker has led them with 19 tackles and has also deflected two passes while barking out all the calls as well.

It’s not very often a player wins the award more than once in one regular season, but what the junior has been doing is just undeniable. In Friday night’s 51-0 win over Montgomery he threw for 373 yards on 22-of-34 passing and two scores. He also rushed for 4 more touchdowns. It was the fifth straight week he’s posted at least five TD’s and has done most of his damage playing only in the first half of games.

DEFENSE

JUSTIN WOODLEY

Playing with an over-sized cast on his arm, he led the Knights in receiving with 5 receptions for 85 yards. He made 12 tackles (4 TFL) and a deflected a pass. The junior also might have made the play of the game with an interception that he returned 32 yards to the 4-yard line. The Knights took their first lead of the game one play later and hung on to survive 19-17 at Hilltop.

The Knights lost a heartbreaker to one of the top small schools in the state 42-35 in overtime, but there’s no arguing the sophomore receiver/safety proved he’s one of the top players in the county, if not the best already. He was virtually uncoverable and his final stat line read….14 receptions, 210 yards, 4 TD, 6 tackles and 1 diving interception in the end zone on defense.

DEFENSE

DEMITRI WASHINGTON

SANTA FE CHRISTIAN

It was his first career varsity game. He was coming off a meniscus injury. Neither of those bothered him as he dominated in the Eagles’ 51-10 victory over Rancho Christian. He made 12 tackles (9 solo, 3 ast), had 3 tackles for a loss and also made 2 sacks. When asked by his peers and coaches who to nominate the vote was unanimously overwhelming for the sophomore.

It was just another ho-hum 5 touchdown performance for the junior star in a 42-7 beatdown over Classical Academy. He went 16-of-21 for 212 yards and 3 touchdown passes and added 82 yards on the ground and a couple of more scores, including a few highlight reel plays….oh yeah it was also in one half of play.

DEFENSE

DANTE FANUCCHI

HORIZON

This definitely won't be the last time you hear of this sophomore stud's name after he helped anchor a Panthers' defense to an improbable comeback.

All things getting past the Panthers’ defense must get by the senior linebacker first. He was a force in their 45-0 victory over Tri-City Christian to earn their first win of the season in shutout fashion. The individual stats were not recorded, but on film you can see he had a hand in what seemed to be like every single tackle.

A.J. BRITANICO

There was no question the senior running back would have a big year for the Knights…the only question was how BIG?! In a HUGE Week Two 42-7 win over La Jolla he rushed for 173 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns. He also caught two balls out of the backfield for 26 and another score.

DEFENSE

RYAN LARICCIA

LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY

Ryan Lariccia

The junior linebacker leads all of San Diego county with 33 tackles through the first two weeks of the season. He more than kept the Torreys in the game last week with 23 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a blocked extra point. He followed up that performance with another double digit tackling performance (in one half of play) with 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 ast) helping to lead LJCD to a 48-26 win over Flintridge Prep.

Making his first varsity start under center the junior quarterback played all the right cards in Saturday’s 39-0 thumping of Sweetwater. In a run-first offense, he completed 5-of-10 passing for 139 yards and one long touchdown. He also read the defense beautifully – he knew exactly when to keep it and when to hand it off – rushing 6 times for 74 yards, which included a pair of touchdown runs of 3 and 27 yards.

DEFENSE

CALEB PHILLIPS

SANTA FE CHRISTIAN

Caleb Phillips

The linebacker/receiver known as the “agitated ostrich” jumped off the film screen this last weekend looking a possessed piece of poultry. He finished the 39-0 win over Sweetewater with 10 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and caught three passes for 121 yards. Also peppered in the mix was a 84-yard touchdown reception in which he went up over the defender to grab the pass and then wrestled away an attempted arm tackle with his stork-like legs.

It’s been a big couple of weeks for the sophomore star quarterback. Right before the playoffs began he committed to the University of Arizona and has been spectacular since. Through the air, he has 8 touchdowns to no interceptions and has rushed for a score in each game. Last week, he led the Torreys to a spot in the Division V Championship game with a 53-20 win over No. 1 seed Holtville going 16-for-23 for 327 yards and 5 TD passes. He also rushed for 30 yards on six carries and 1 score.

DEFENSE

CASEY MARIUCCI

LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY

Casey Mariucci

All the sophomores on the Torreys’ defense have had to grow up in a hurry this season and they more than answered the call. Playing against a much bigger line, the defensive lineman made 9 tackles and had a sack in their semifinal win over Holtville. He didn’t stop there though. Offensively, he had four receptions and two touchdowns in a 53-point outburst.

The senior running back only had 4 touches in the Torreys’ 61-21 win over Maranatha Christian, but he made the most of them scoring three touchdowns. He set the tone early with a 51-yard touchdown run, caught a 73-yard touchdown in the second quarter and returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown after the Eagles scored their first touchdown of the game to make it 61-7.

DEFENSE

DARIEN BROWN

LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY

Playing on a defense littered with sophomores, the senior stole the show with 147 total yards. He only made 4 tackles on defense, but made his first two career interceptions, pronouncing the Torreys’ arrival onto the Division V scene. He actually had a third pick, but the refs ruled him out of bounds. He also returned a punt for 22 yards, caught two passes for 48 yards and took back one of his two picks 74 yards to the house in the second quarter to make it a comfortable 38-0 halftime lead.

In his final regular season game before moving on to Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, the senior acted like a one man militia, leading the Lancers to a 58-46 victory over Horizon. He posted a pair of career-highs, rushing for 231 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also threw for 91 yards on 5-of-9 passing. On defense, he made 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 ast), broke up a pass and blocked a punt.

DEFENSE

MATT WEI

FRANCIS PARKER

Matt-Wei

Usually when there is 104 points scored in a game there’s not a whole of defense being played, but the senior linebacker made 7 tackles, 2 TFL and 3 sacks to help the Lancers hold on for a 58-46 win. He also helped put points on the board with a 9-yard touchdown run and finished the game with 60 yards on 13 carries.

KEVIN LONEY

SANTA FE CHRISTIAN

Kevin Loney2

The sophomore running back/line backer played a big part in the Eagles’ 31-21 league victory over La Jolla Country Day. He opened the scoring with a 42-yard touchdown run to completely swing the games’ momentum in SFC’s favor, then converted on a huge third down late in the game to close the door. He ended with 82 yards on 8 carries and two scores. On defense, he also made 7 tackles (6 solo, 1 ast) and had 3 monster sacks against a slippery quarterback.

DEFENSE

CARTER ROBERTS

SANTA FE CHRISTIAN

Roberts, Carter

La Jolla Country Day had the momentum the majority of the day, but they failed to score deep in Eagles territory because they couldn’t take care of the ball. One of the big reasons why was the senior defensive back, who made 2 key interceptions. At quarterback, he also led the offense to 291 rushing yards and threw one touchdown.
